The England international made 114 appearances for the club and played a key role as Spurs reached the Champions League final in 2018/19.

While his final season at the club was characterised by a number of sloppy errors domestically, including an embarrassing own goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, supporters have praised the former Manchester City youngster.

Indeed, he was signed from Burnley for a fee of just £3.5m in 2015 and has been a loyal servant to the club, while also making an impact internationally and becoming Gareth Southgate’s first-choice right-back at the 2018 World Cup.

Liverpool fans react as a Philippe Coutinho return could be on

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was reported exclusively by Calciomercato.it that Liverpool are attentive to Philippe Coutinho’s situation at Barcelona.

The report states that the Reds have tabled a two-year loan option for the Brazil international with an option to buy for a total sum of £88m, although that doesn’t suit the Spanish giants who would prefer to sell the 27-year-old outright.

“The worst we’ve played all season” but “our most straightforward final since 2003” – a Liverpool fan reflects on the UCL final in the video below…

Coutinho has reportedly approved the move, and it would be a sensational transfer if the former Inter Milan man went back to Anfield after the manner in which he forced a move away – the 5 foot 8 star handed in a transfer request and paid his own money towards the transfer in January 2018.

His future at the Camp Nou seems unclear after Barcelona handed his No.7 shirt to new signing Antoine Griezmann, whilst Coutinho also endured a poor 2018/19 campaign in which he scored just 11 goals and recorded five assists.

Let’s take a look at what the Liverpool fans on Twitter are saying about the report on a potential return to Anfield for Coutinho…

Wolves: Supporters on Twitter weren’t happy with Ruben Vinagre yesterday

Whilst Wolves will be travelling back to Molineux to face Torino with a one-goal lead and three away goals, last night wasn’t all about the positives. Adama Traore at right-wing-back seemed to play well, but Ruben Vinagre on the other side was lacklustre.

Nuno Espirito Santo got most things right in the 3-2 win, although his side would have come away with a 3-1 win and been in a much better position than they are now had Vinagre not given away a cheap penalty late in the game in Turin, which Andrea Belotti scored to make it 3-2.

Ultimately, Wolves still have a lead and are in the much better position in this tie ahead of the second leg, Vinagre was seemingly more harm than good in the tie, and perhaps it wouldn’t be a shock if Jonny Otto was the man called upon when Torino travel to Wolverhampton next Thursday, especially seeing as Vinagre only got a 4/10 rating in The Express and Star’s player ratings.

Manchester United icon Patrice Evra rinses Rio Ferdinand on Instagram

[ad_pod ]

The former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has now officially retired from the beautiful game.

He confirmed as much in his latest Instagram video, one that details certain highlights from his rich career. As a player, he enjoyed a stellar stint at Old Trafford and accumulated a total of 379 appearances for the Red Devils.

But even though his career as a player is rather impressive, he’s also quite the showman, especially on social media where he constantly drops hilarious snaps and video.

The latest victim of such a prank was another ex-Red Devil, Rio Ferdinand.

It seems that Ferdinand commented on Evra’s site and the now 38-year-old did not like that at all.

In response he posted a revenge snap on Instagram.

The snap was a comparison between Ferdinand and an ostrich and it had plenty of stars in tears of both laughter and disbelief.

Didier Drogba, for example, couldn’t believe Evra would post such a thing and he prompted Ferdinand to retaliate as soon as possible.

Some others, like Adebayo Akinfenwa, were just there to enjoy the show and laugh.

Manchester United would be getting rid of more dead wood with Matteo Darmian exit

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Rai Sport (via Football Italia), Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is set to join Inter on a free transfer next summer.

What’s the word?

The Italy international has endured a difficult time at Old Trafford since joining from Torino, and his contract with the club comes to an end in the summer of 2020.

Now, the report claims Inter have already reached an agreement with Darmian over a move once his deal at United expires.

The 29-year-old has been linked with an exit for numerous transfer windows, but it appears his time in Manchester may finally be coming to an end.

Getting rid of deadwood

A versatile full-back capable of playing on both flanks, Darmian’s career has never really taken off at United. Despite his ability to play in numerous positions, the Italian has only been used sparingly by multiple managers.

Whilst he hasn’t exactly thrown a strop or demanded out, Darmian simply isn’t good enough and needs to be let go. At 29, the former Torino star is essentially in the peak years of his career, but has shown no sign of establishing himself in the United first-team.

Getting rid of players like Darmian is the kind of ruthless and necessary business the Red Devils simply have to do under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The club cannot afford to be carrying passengers or paying players who are nowhere near the first-team squad. If his potential exit can only come about next year, then that’s a price United just have to pay.

Crystal Palace linked with Everton’s James McCarthy, fans react

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was reported by Sky Sports that an £8m bid had been made for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland international made just one appearance for the Toffees last term, finding game time hard to come by under Marco Silva ahead of names such as Andre Gomes, Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies.

In the video below, find out which Chelsea academy prospect is reportedly being lined up to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Crystal Palace…

McCarthy, 28, signed from Wigan back in 2013 for a fee of £13m, but saw his time at Goodison Park seriously disrupted by a broken leg, which ruled him out for almost a year and saw him miss 39 games as a result.

The 5 foot 11 midfielder is still a safe pair of hands, but some Palace fans seem like he wouldn’t represent a good long-term investment at the age of 28, whilst centre-midfield isn’t really a position that needs filling at Selhurst Park right now.

Let’s see what the Palace fans are saying about the reported bid on Twitter…

Manchester United’s new role for Nicky Butt can help academy players thrive

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Amidst all the doom and gloom of last season, one thing Manchester United will rightly point to as a sign of progress is the emergence of some of its young stars.

The likes of Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong featured in some shape or form for the United first-team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and it’s fair to say that the future is certainly bright with some of the Red Devils’ promising academy players.

Whilst United have always notoriously been strong when it comes to giving youth an opportunity, the announcement of Nicky Butt’s new position at the club will certainly raise hopes and expectations that the club will be in even better hands.

It was confirmed that the United legend has been promoted to the position of Head of First Team Development, and he will “continue the strong bond between the Academy and the first team, to create a seamless journey for young players stepping up to the next level”.

Indeed, speaking after the news, Butt said: “Manchester United is in my DNA and this is a very proud moment for me as I take on this new role. I am passionate about nurturing, developing and coaching the talent we have here to become top players at this club.

“Under Ole’s leadership, our vision will ensure that we continue to provide the right environment for our young players to thrive in.”

As United continue to struggle to get deals over the line for the likes of Harry Maguire and Sean Longstaff, and face a year of Europa League football next season, the need for the club’s academy to really step up has perhaps never been greater.

Greenwood has already stolen the show on the club’s pre-season tour this summer, but it remains to be seen how big of a role he will play next year at just 17, despite Solskjaer’s comments about him.

The modern footballing world of instant success is demanding and often unforgiving, but Butt’s appointment in the new role should ease the transition from the academy into the first-team. The talent is already there, now it’s up to Butt to help make the most of it.

Rangers fans are optimistic after Europa League draw

[ad_pod ]

Rangers fans are pleased their side will face either Legia Warsaw or Atrimtos in the final qualifying tie for the Europa League, should they get past FC Midtjylland.

Steven Gerrard’s men will face one of the Polish or Greek sides if they can get past the Danish Cup winners Midtjylland over the next ten days.

The Gers will host the Danish side on Thursday before travelling to Jutland for the second leg next week.

The Light Blues will have to successfully navigate the next four games if they want to at least replicate last season’s feat of reaching the group stages of the European competition.

The draw has been favourable to Gerrard’s men in the eyes of the supporters, leading to cries of optimism. The Gers could’ve faced PSV Eindhoven or Wolves, so some feel they have come away from the draw lightly.

And this favourable draw, coupled with the fact that the side have yet to concede in Europe this season, has got the Ibrox faithful very excited indeed.
